Faith and Media in the Digital Age: Media Education Society Prepares to Release Groundbreaking Curriculum for Catholic and Christian Communities

ORLANDO, Fla.April 18, 2025 —The Media Education Society is developing a values-driven curriculum designed to help Catholic and Christian communities critically engage with today’s media landscape. The educational content aims to empower faith-based leaders, educators and families to integrate media literacy into their ministries and classrooms. An official release date forthcoming, but those interested are asked to reach out in the organization’s website to receive early updates, and be among the first to access pilot materials when they become available. The website is http://www.mediaedsociety.org.

Developed by founder Dr. Rose Lugo, a media professional with more than 20 years of experience and a doctorate in education from Loyola Marymount University, the curriculum draws upon both research and pastoral practice. It reflects the Society’s foundational belief that media can—and should—be used to uplift human dignity and strengthen communities of faith.

“Today’s digital culture requires more than caution—it demands formation,” Lugo said. “Heavily grounded in Catholic social teaching, our curriculum is designed to give people of faith the skills and confidence to both understand and shape the media around them.”

The curriculum, which will be released in stages, will include lesson plans, video modules and practical tools for use in parishes, schools, small group settings, and at home. It will be offered in English, Spanish and Portuguese to support diverse ministries worldwide.

Faith communities interested in early access or pilot opportunities can sign up for updates via the Media Education Society’s official website http://www.mediaedsociety.org.
