Media Education Society Launches to Promote Values-Driven Media Literacy Rooted in the Common Good

ORLANDO, Fla.April 17, 2025  — A new nonprofit organization dedicated to faith-based media literacy has launched with a bold mission: to help individuals understand, engage with and create media through the lens of the common good. The Media Education Society, founded by Dr. Rose Lugo, is a lay apostolate and public charity working to bridge the growing gap between faith and digital culture.

Given the increasing influence of media on public perception, values and community engagement, the organization seeks to equip believers with the tools needed to navigate today’s complex media environment. The Media Education Society is grounded in Catholic social teaching but serves all faith traditions interested in promoting ethical, reflective and values-centered media engagement.

“There is a pressing need for media education that is not just technically sound but morally grounded,” said Lugo, a veteran journalist and media scholar. “Our aim is to form conscience-driven media participants who can recognize truth, resist manipulation and contribute to the common good.”

Initial offerings will include educational resources, downloadable guides and professional development for faith leaders and educators. These materials will be accessible in English, Spanish and Portuguese to reflect the Society’s multicultural reach.

The organization is currently developing its website and content library, with full digital access expected in the Summer.
