About the Media Education Society
The Media Education Society is a 501(c)(3) public charity rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, dedicated to promoting media literacy education through the lens of the common good. We believe media literacy is essential for faith formation, informed citizenship, personal agency, and community resilience. Our apostolic movement empowers individuals and communities with the skills to discern, navigate, and create media that upholds their Judeo-Christian values.
Position Summary
The Media Education Society is seeking a detail-oriented, mission-aligned Volunteer Grant Researcher & Writer to help secure funding to sustain and expand our apostolate. This role is critical to our ability to offer faithful, high-quality media literacy programs and resources.
As a Grant Researcher & Writer, you will identify grant opportunities, craft compelling proposals, and support the development of grant narratives and budgets. Your work will directly contribute to increasing access to faith-based media literacy education across dioceses, parishes, schools, and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Strategy
• Research and track grant opportunities from foundations, diocesan offices, philanthropic institutions, and education-focused donors.
• Evaluate funding opportunities based on eligibility, alignment with mission, and strategic fit.
• Maintain a calendar of upcoming deadlines and submission timelines.
Proposal Development
• Draft and edit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, narratives, and supporting documents.
• Collaborate with leadership to gather data, program descriptions, and impact stories.
• Ensure all submissions reflect the Society’s Catholic identity and media literacy mission.
Organizational Support
• Assist in reporting on grant activity and outcomes to funders and stakeholders.
• Maintain records of past proposals, funding statuses, and correspondence.
• Suggest new funders and help strengthen relationships with existing grantors.
Who You Are
• A practicing Catholic with a commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church.
• Experienced in grant writing, development, nonprofit communications, or research (professional or volunteer).
• Skilled in writing persuasively with clarity, professionalism, and attention to tone.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and deadline-driven.
• Passionate about the intersection of faith, media, and education.
