Dr. Rose Lugo is the founder and president of the Media Education Society, a lay apostolate and public charity dedicated to helping people understand, engage with, and create media through the lens of the common good. She is also the author of A Survival Guide for the Media Age, a timely and practical resource that equips audiences to navigate today’s complex media landscape with clarity, conscience, and purpose.
A seasoned storyteller with more than 20 years of experience in the international media industry, Dr. Lugo has held editorial roles at major networks including Globo Network, FOX Latin America, and CNN en Español. Her leadership has extended to mission-driven media work with organizations such as Regnum Christi, Loyola Productions, and Guadalupe Radio, where she helped shape narratives rooted in faith, human dignity, and social responsibility.
Dr. Lugo earned her doctorate in education at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where her research focused on the intersection of media literacy education and Catholic social teaching. Her scholarship was published in the Journal of Media Literacy Education, a leading peer-reviewed journal in the field. She also completed graduate studies in television and film at California State University, Los Angeles, and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil.
Now based in Florida, Dr. Lugo carries out her ministry work across English, Spanish, and Portuguese-speaking communities, educating diverse audiences to become empowered media consumers and faith-filled content creators.
